So What Do I Eat?

June 9, 2008 by admin

When learning about nutrition and the role it plays in weight management or weight loss, you must understand that there are two components that affect how well you manage or lose weight. Those two components are the amount of food you eat and types of foods you eat. In this article, we address the characteristics of healthy foods to answer the common question: What do I eat? If you are truly interested in acquiring better health, more energy, better digestive health, and weight management/ loss, then you must learn the characteristics of healthy food choices. Keep in mind that I am aware that some of you already know the difference between healthy foods and unhealthy foods, but it is always great to have a reminder.

For those of you that have no clue, great- you will know what to look for after reading this list.

Look for foods that have the following basic 7 characteristics:

1.  Contains high amounts of vitamins and minerals(whole foods)

2.  High protein content

3.  Low fat or it contains high amounts of omega 3 oils

4.  High fiber

5.  Low sodium

6.  Decreases or eliminates cravings, promotes healthy digestion, and glowing skin, (low sugar content with high fiber and protein)

7. Contains no aspartame(aspartame increases cravings!) Yes, your diet coke makes you eat more!

The most important question to ask yourself when choosing foods is “Does this food have high protein and high fiber with low amounts of sugar?” High protein and high fiber are the key to being satisfied which is what we all want so that we don’t overeat. I am sure some of you now wondering thinking, well, give some examples of those types of foods that have those 7 characteristics.
